In conjunction with Greenpeace, EcoGen successfully sourced, constructed and operated a Bonus 150kW wind turbine at the iconic Glastonbury Festival in 1994 and 1995.
The machine provided power to the main stage during the festival where acts including Peter Gabriel, Oasis, Johnny Cash & Radiohead all performed.
As part of the risk assessment carried out prior to installing the turbine, EcoGen had to ensure that the turbine would be secure in strong winds. The modelling showed that the turbine would be standing faithfully long after the last of the festival-goers’ tents had blown away!
At a time when renewable energy was very much in its infancy, this innovative project successfully raised the profile of wind power – and lives long in the memory of those who were there.
