The proposed Boardinghouse Wind Farm is located to the west of Wimblington and about 3km. south west of March in Cambridgeshire. The site lies directly to the north of and adjoins the operational Ransonmoor Wind Farm. Although separately owned and grid-connected, the two projects will appear as a single wind farm visually.
The Project
The Boardinghouse project comprises five 2MW turbines of a similar size – 110m tip height - to those at Ransonmoor, together with a combined sub-station and control building linked by underground electrical and fibre optic cabling to the turbines and connecting the wind farm to the local 33kV overhead line. The development also requires some additional site tracks and hard standing and upgrading of existing site tracks. Depending on the final turbine choice, each turbine may have a transformer housed alongside, if not located in the tower itself.
Investigation and Consultation
EcoGen have been preparing a planning application for submission for over two years, consulting with individuals and bodies who may have an interest in the development and undertaking an assessment of the likely environmental impacts of the proposal. The results have been consolidated in an Environmental Statement accompanying the planning application which may be accessed below. The Planning Application was submitted to Fenland District Council on 19th August 2009. Progress of the application may be followed by visiting the planning pages of the Fenland District Council website and quoting the Application Reference F/YR09/0562/F
